Qualifications and Applications to Participate
Reproduction Bank at a Glance
How does this bank work?
The Bank accepts deposits of semen from purebred Otterhounds, and owners of bitches who qualify can withdraw the semen of their choice for a mating. Note: Semen will not be used until the stud dog owner no longer has semen available (dog can no longer produce semen and there is no frozen semen belonging to the stud dog owner. Should someone else own semen on the dog, the Reproduction Bank is still allowed to use the semen on hand in the bank.)
Can any male donate?
Yes any purebred Otterhound can donate semen except Otterhounds who have seizures or are cryptorchid. Non-seizing offspring or siblings of seizing Otterhounds can donate, but their semen will be held in reserve for 10 years to be sure they do not have seizures. Then it will be available for use. There will be a full disclosure about the dog’s health history for the owner of the bitch in bank records.
Are there any requirements?
Males and females using the Bank need to have a CHIC number. Each needs to be tested for Glanzmann’s, have hip x-rays (possible at age 24 months) and blood submitted to the University of Missouri. Results of the Glanzmann’s and hip x-rays must be made public through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. (OFA)

Stud Dogs
What are the Qualifications to participate?
The Reproduction Bank encourages owners to donate already collected frozen semen to the Reproduction Bank. All stud dog owners must keep current their and their heir contact information so that all available owner’s semen may be used first.
Donations will be accepted for dogs that meet the criteria. There will be no compensation for donations. Semen collected from dogs at the expense of the Reproduction Bank will become the property of the Otterhound Reproduction Bank. Cost of shipment to the semen bank storage location may be donated by the owner or paid for by the Reproduction Bank. Funds for Repro Bank will come from personal tax deductible donations of interested parties as well as stud fees from semen used from the Reproduction Bank.
*For previously frozen semen, please contact the members of the board of the bank if testing was not done (i.e. CHIC qualifications or Brucellosis)

- Must be in good health, of sound temperament and of good disposition as described in the Otterhound standard.
- The board of the bank will use their discretion to determine if certain dogs would be asked for collection for the Bank.
- Owners of semen do not need to be members of the OHCA.
- The Reproduction Bank board will make all decisions on use of or continuation of storage of semen.
- Must have a negative brucellosis test within one month of semen freezing.
